You can add them in join menu, but they will try to join after at least one player joins. You cannot add them during the play, sorry I wasn't clear enough. This cannot be the case, functions are first class in lua. Difficult to say without full code but I assume you didn't pass the function from playerfunctions.lua to main.lua at all.
