Re: Why has everybody got OBEY in their profile pic?

You are not allowed to question it. I demand obedience!

Re: Programming Paradigms and Lua/LÖVE

well I don't have to understand the details to try to understand the concept. Basicly a code organisation/style has to be designed and there are different approaches to do so. OOP apparently helps to understand the program as a hierarchy/relationship of concepts such as the 'entity' example you made...

Re: Platformer

if you compute the movement like this: player.x=player.x+player.hspeed hspeed would be the horizontal speed. you would do the same for player.y and verticlal speed (player.vspeed). then you can implement some kind of pseudo gravity: player.vspeed=player.vspeed+2 this is basicly acceleration. Change ...

Re: Scary Monsters

the art is beatyful and the camera interesting. But I'am not sure if such a spinning camera could cause some discomfort after a certain time? If your not sure either then I suggest you test it for a while and look on something in your room after you stare on the display. To see if things are startin...

Re: Compiling?

To clarify: I don't think closed source is evil by itself. I'm fortunate enough to get paid to do some open source work, but a lot of my programming job is still closed source. I just found the terminology funny in a metaphoric way. As for me I don't think either is evil as well and I'am very again...

Re: Any drawing of a image from file results in a whit box?

love.graphics.setColor(255,255,255) it also overwrites images. This is incorrect. If the colour is set to white (255, 255, 255) when drawing an image, no colour modulation is performed on that image. It's only if the colour is set to like, red, or something, that the pictures you draw will appear r...

Re: Programming Paradigms and Lua/LÖVE

It would be fun to find out if and how you could make a game with a functional language. But that is not my goal anyway. I just extracted the part of the concept I like about it (mathematically true functions) to organise my code. I realize that the expression you quoted is imperative (and can be wr...

Re: Platformer

If you want to use AABBs (axis aligned bounding boxes) instead of tiles then you can use this snippet from the wiki: http://love2d.org/wiki/BoundingBox.lua it checks wether two rectangles that are axis aligned (=defined by x,y,width, height) collide with eachother. The second part is collision resolu...
