Meet Joe.

Joe is concerned about his health, because if Joe stops moving, Joe will die.

We've been working on this for a while, but I thought it's about time to make a thread about it here.

It's basically a puzzle platformer, with the catch being you have to keep moving, or you die.

If you're curious, this is sort of a spiritual sequel to the flash version of the game, whose trailer you can watch here:

And you can play the old flash version anywhere online.

Comments? Criticism? Love it? Hate it? Please tell me!

Love it.
Even without "god" speaking, it looks very well done and very playable.
With the voice added, it's even cooler.

Looks like you were a little inspired by super meat boy as well...

We actually get that a lot. What makes you say it's like Super Meat Boy? I can see how the characters are both squares..and they're both platformers, but that's about it.

SMB is a fast paced, super difficult actiony platformer. Concerned Joe is a puzzle platformer with a narrator, an adventure, secrets and easter eggs. If anything, Joe is inspired by Portal.

Wow, very nice!

I love the graphics, and the engine (from what I can see in the video) seems very polished. The voiceover is really cool too - that combined with the signs, puzzles, and such definitely gives a Portal-feel (though not in a "you copied Portal" sort of way). Great work! I can't wait to play it!

Is it built with Löve? Because it's amazing either way. Will the "Voice of God" be narrating the whole game? Because that would be amazing. I love when there's a cocky narrator telling you what to do and not do. Like GlaDOS from Portal or the scientist guy played by John "Q from Star Trek" de Lancie from Quantum Conundrum. Oh, and I guess the narrator from that other game with the painterly look to it that's isometric and on Steam and everyone made a big deal about it though I didn't care much for it because it's boooring.. um.. (Google's for "indie game with narrator", looks at first result.) Bastion! That's the one. Or that neato Garry's Mod The Stanley Parable.

I think more games need a context aware narrator.

The way he runs (lots of quick, small steps) and the way he jumps just felt familiar. Don't worry, it doesn't look at all like you copied them. it just has the same "fast paced" feel to it, in a good way.
