Nice usage of Tiled here.
I love such kind of games (something like Zanac-EX etc)
The only thing I miss on your vids is a characters shadow.
Having shadows, you'll be able to add 2 kinds of enemy: on the ground / in air (for different tactics etc).
Also you'll be able to make the player jump over stuff. Having shadows is nice overall.

Thanks. Indeed air enemies will be necessary at some point, who can move freely onscreen while ground enemies have to go around obstacles. I started with ground enemies only because their graphics were most available.
