I'm making my game in Love with the intention of charging for it, FWIW. It's a tactical turn based RPG somewhat along the lines of King's Bounty or Dragon Age Journeys. The game is relatively close to done on my end, thoguh I made the mistake of waiting to search for artists too late, so that will be blocking me soon. In the meantime, sound/graphical assets aside, my own work is nearing its end -- I really just need more playtesting, balancing, bug fixing and improving performance. Also hoping love 0.8 will fix the font issues I am having in framebuffers since it's almost unusuably ugly atm.

The framework seems to be handling everything I need it to so far. Sure there are some features it would be nice to have, but no matter what engine you use that's going to be the case.

As for people wanting to DRM up their game / protect their zips it seems silly to me. What matters is whether or not you make money from your game. It will be cracked by pirates, no matter what effort you put into it (as the recent ubi always online drm showed), it takes times you could be spending on other tasks, and it makes the experience worse for legit customers when things don't work properly. Frankly, I'm worried enough about problems working on different machines without sabotaging it.

And hell, I actually view the openness of the lua files as an advantage. If someone wants to copy my game code and redistribute it for money, it's very easy to prove, and then it's a legal matter. It makes modding and tweaking much easier, and there are many game communities which end up massively extending given game title's lives due to modding capabilities -- look at Bethesda games, or Stalker games, for instance.
