BEGINNER GUIDE: THE RIGHT WAY TO SUCCEED IN SKATEBOARDING

Post by fatimahauck »

People take up skateboarding for a number of reasons, some are fascinated by the stunning performance of skaters and want to try it out, some want to use skateboarding as an alternative means of transport, while many beginners want to pursue a professional career in this sport.

However, crossing the line between an amateur rider and a professional skateboarder is a long story and you can only do it once you can make your own meets from skating. For skillful skaters, they tend to find a company that can sponsor their passion and help them to develop their careers.

So what does it take to become a pro skateboarder? According to some experience sharing articles at SkateAdvisors, here are what is necessary:

BUILD GOOD HABITS TO MAINTAIN GOOD HEALTH

Consistency is the number one priority in skateboarding for professional skaters. Don’t let some minor injuries put you on long layoffs since it will build a bad habit in your muscles. For beginners who try so hard to become pro riders, they try to push themselves so hard and even risk their health on dangerous tricks just to satisfy their desire. However, skating takes time and so does building your skills.

A professional skater must know how serious injuries can destroy their career forever and they will become useless. Therefore, taking the risks does more bad things than good things and it is just an aggressive way to skateboard. For ensuring your safety, always remember to wear proper safety equipment, especially a helmet. Also, you need to pay attention to the moving vehicles if you are going to skate on streets with traffic.

PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT

It is undeniable that a novice only gets better and better by skating a lot. Before you can make money in the skateboarding world, you first need to master this sport and build your fame. Once you have achieved high levels of skateboarding with extraordinary skills, you will be able to attract sponsors.

As studied by Malcolm Gladwell in the book named Outliers, an average person needs 10,000 hours of practicing to become proficient at skateboarding. However, don’t practice intensively for only some hours in a week and take a rest for the rest. Your muscles and brain need time to adapt to new movements and demands so skating regularly like it is your routine can help you accomplish better results.

INVEST IN YOUR PROFILE

Like I stated before, you need to get the sponsors’ attention if you want to pursue a career in skateboarding. Spending time analyzing your presence on the internet is a good way to advertise yourself. From my experience, establishing a connection with the public through some social media is a good idea.

Besides that, a professional skater needs to have a bright personality and the ability to drive spectators insane with their stunning performance. Next, you need to get your own fan base since investors are only interested in skaters who already have a huge number of fans.

In the eyes of sponsors, they care more about their profit than your career. By posting videos sharing your spectacular skills on famous platforms like Facebook, Instagram, or Youtube, you can attract a great number of followers. Your social profile will be looked through carefully before you can get your investment so remember to take your time and effort to build an impressive profile.

JOIN THE COMMUNITY OF OTHER SKATERS TO FIND OPPORTUNITIES

The greatest thing about skateboarding is that you can make friends with so many people disregarding their social class, race, or religion. Additionally, newbies can get valuable advice from other skaters on how to pick the best skateboard for beginners on facebook.

By joining these groups, you can get better opportunities to engage in big competitions where you can impress skateboard company representatives. You can start with some contests for armature before getting into professional ones. Performing in front of all the sponsors at these events is extremely hard since skaters are put under high pressure. Therefore, skaters must be familiar with these exhilarating and nerve-wracking situations.

TAKE ALL CHANCES

Once you have won some big and popular skating competitions, there will be some companies that offer you some sponsorships to develop your career. If you are confident about your skills and ability, don’t hesitate to email these companies directly. That is the fastest way to get you to the front door.

FINAL THOUGHT

Work and effort are essential to achieve your goals in skateboarding. The recipe above is not the only way to become a pro skateboarder; however, that is the most common way. Remember that skilled skaters always attract companies that want to promote their products or services.

There is nothing to be ashamed of while failing to get sponsorship in the beginning but with determination and effort, the results will pay you back.

Re: LoveFrames and scaling

Use 2 canvas, one where you draw you game that will be upscaled and one where you draw you UI stuff that will stay the same.

Code: Select all

game_canvas = love.graphics.newCanvas()
ui_canvas      = love.graphics.newCanvas()

function love.draw()
	love.graphics.setCanvas(game_canvas)
		-- draw game
	love.graphics.setCavas(ui_canvas)
		-- draw ui
	love.graphics.draw(game_canvas, 0, 0, _, scale)
	love.graphics.draw(ui_canvas)
end
