OOP and Metatables

Post by zugamifk » Mon Aug 17, 2009 12:41 am

So I've been reading a bit about using pseudo-object oriented programming in Lua using metamethods and it seems like an extremely useful concept for game design. The problem is that I can't quite get a grasp of how to properly use it. Are there good resources out there for learning such things?

I've looked and the Lua wiki which seems to have a lot of outdated articles, and the manual on the lua web site isn't exactly the best place to go for someone not familiar with OOP in the first place. Also, there seems to be a sort of conflict between people who prefer using functions and those who prefer OOP. What are the strengths and weaknesses of both? If anyone can point me in the right direction, I'd be very grateful.
