Super Samurai Guy

Post by SSG_DEV »

Super Samurai Guy is a 2D survival slashemup set in a dungeon. It's full of permadeath

Inspired by Diablo, Nethack, Spelunky, Legend of Kage, and of course Super Mario.

Love 2D is amazing, especially with Moonscript, Spine, and Tiled. We are in heavy experimental mode at the moment - everything needs sprucing up. We are about 10% done.

Edit: You can now download the game! See attachment. Looking forward to hearing what you think.

For some reason, I expected to see Silent Hill in that list...

Thanks pgimeno! It's nice to be posting here.

I played Silent Hill before so it could be a subconscious inspiration. The sword actually comes from http://naruto.wikia.com/wiki/Kubikirib%C5%8Dch%C5%8D

An update with a new playable! Thanks to everyone who downloaded the last version. Just the thought that someone might be enjoying SSG is a huge a boon to our morale :)

Fighting stances.
There are 2 stances you switch between every time you swing the sword. You can see this in the gif. We're planning on adding parry and other stances in the future.

Lighting and shadows!
We're using the Lightworld library. This works well and is helping us get closer to the atmosphere we're trying to achieve.

HUD clean up
Instead of an HP bar, there's now HP balls. This is cool because the vending machines now have a chance of dropping permanent HP increases. These increases are more apparent because you can count the HP balls.

New monsters
1. Egg that hatches roaches. Now the player has a reason to jump and attack because the eggs attach to the ceiling
2. Reanimated skeleton that randomly charges the player, and can instantly kill the player.
3. Greatsword wielding werewolf.

@easy82
Thanks for the kind words :)

This is quite intense. I show some gameplay around 9:37 in this random indie games testing video:
lg.newImage("cat.png") -- made possible by lg = love.graphics
-- Don't force fullscreen (it frustrates those who want to try your game real quick) -- Develop for 1280x720 (so people can make HD videos)

Special Christmas playable release!

Sparkles!
Sparkles were added to gold to make it look more treasure-ry. The key is also very sparkly. You can now tell a monster is holding a key because of the sparkles.
Image

Shadow blobs
Objects now look like they have depth thanks to shadow blobs.
Image

Tranquilizer dart
You can now equip a blow pipe that puts monsters to sleep.
Image

Werewolf hat
The werewolf now wears a crown. This indicates that it’s a champion. There are going to be more monsters wearing hats in the forth-coming releases.

Gashapon
We’ve added a Japanese ball vending machine. This sells dry goods. The old vending machine now sells “wet” goods.

@qubodup thanks! glad you think it's intense. Going to be watching your videos in the future! :)

@xNick1 thanks for your kind words! :)
