New here and a few non-technical questions

Post by Cybermonkey342 »

Hi Community,

I recently found LÖVE and I am really impressed how powerful it is. Although I've never coded anything in Lua, it seems quite easy to learn for the average BASIC/Pascal programmer. Best thing is, it works with 64 bit machines, too. :)
1. There is an (R) in the official logo. Is LÖVE really a registered trademark?
2. And most important: how to pronounce LÖVE? Like the German word "Löwe" (which means Lion) or like the English word "Love"?
So, my first non-technical questions. Now I'll dive into Lua and maybe soon there will be more questions ... ;)
Best wishes,

1. No*
2. Love**

* It's just a joke..
** In norwegian, we also say "løve" (lion) and the ø is interchangeable with ö (which is the Swedish equivalent), so we usually pronounce it "love", but it sounds like "løve"... it's kind of hard to describe.

Well I watched one of your vids mike. And I seem to remember you saying something like "Hi I'm Mike, one of the guys behind Löve" But you pronounced it like and englishman would pronounce "love" if I remember rightly. I just assumed the umlaut was there to spice it up.

Fuck year. Don't be fooled by the cuteness. We're industrial heavy metal. ^^

The fact that the ® is fake is interesting, though. I didn't know that. :shock: What does a registered trademark even mean, anyway?

It's similar to patent registration, except you register a trademark.
Not sure which countries have trademark registration, but I know at least there's a central office of trademark registration in the US.
The reason to register a trademark is basically to date it to make sure that no one can claim to have rights to use the name at a later date.
Ordinarily trademark registration is not needed, but there's added safety in registration.

You can (legally) use TM as that means it isn't registered yet. But well, changing the logo... too much of a hassle.
