I think your problem is that your GPU doesn't support textures of that size. Try generating texture atlases in runtime using maximum available texture size.

I think it would do much better if you would port imgui to Lua so one wouldn't need to compile it in order to use it.

Everything you draw stays there until you clear it (this fills the whole area with solid color). The screen is cleared every frame automatically, but if you draw to a canvas you need to clear it manually.

I wouldn't disguise a complex setter as a property. You might forget it was a setter with side-effects and then there will be a lot of futile bug hunting.
