Find Me

Post by Person » Sat Jun 20, 2009 9:18 pm

Well, I've been meaning to do simple projects to get my LOVE skills up but I just never felt like doing much complex work. With the lovesnips site going up I thought "I should use one of these just to make a proof of concept game". And so, I present to you "Find Me" the entirely simple game that has absolutely no graphics (that includes a mouse cursor!) and might make you somewhat angry. It's not very finished because it's impossible to do a difficulty 1 game half the time (I haven't added any rounding features) but I just thought I should post it to motivate me to keep going. Try it out, change the difficulty variable, hack it apart and trash it, whatever you feel like doing...

:ultrahappy: What a wonderful idea, it's actually surprising fun.

EDIT: Perhaps when you've found "it" you can show the player a trail of where the mouse has been and where "it" was all along.
Make an uber hard one where "it" moves :vamp: (albeit slowly please)

Great idea! How about if you have multiple levels, and it's really hard, if you click on the screen, the quarter where it is lights up? This can become such a great game ^^

I don't mind at all, in fact I love what you've done. Tables in lua are a bit beyond me so it gives me a simple example to study. I'm working on adding Robin's click and light up the quarter of the screen your in idea. I'll edit my post when I'm finished.

Cool, I've just added a Geiger counter noise as you get closer xD
Hard to say whether it's harder with or without.

Very cool. I would say it gets harder with the Geiger counter, as you have to trust your ears, instead of relying on simple numbers. Man, this made me think about those "blind games" (or whatever they are called). Ideas are popping up in my head the whole time. But it'll have to wait. Tomorrow I have to study for English and Physics. :ehem:

I tried your Geiger version and I must say, it really is a lot harder (for me at least), maybe you should try making at a sine wave or something (higher frequency = closer to goal) although I don't know if that is possible with LOVE. Its also is a lot funner then having to look at a large decimal number. I mostly added the quadrant hints but there is a visibility issue with some text output during the hints and a time issue with the speed at which you use up your hints. I will work on those later, my head is having trouble working on code for so long and I keep making hundreds of tiny game breaking mistakes :ultrahappy: .

*updates first post*

*edit*
Looking at your Geiger code I also see you have it set up so that there is a death point on the screen too.
I like that. :joker:

It reminds me of an old game I used to play called "I Smell A Wumpus!" where you had to try and hunt down a Wumpus before it ate you by throwing your only poison dart into a random cave you thought the Wumpus was in while avoiding moving gas pockets (your canary would die if you were close to one) and the Wumpus itself.

Yea, I commented that out though just to keep things simple.
Now I've implemented my highscore lib to it:
