I seriously doubt his G4 is going to stack up in any reasonable way to his PC. He just needs to install Linux on both.

what's better to do as a secondary OS on a mac, Win7 or XP? currently I'm running Mac OSX and XP. Is Win7 worth it?

I'd use XP for now and wait till others have upgraded Windows 7 so when its your turn you can prowl google whenever problems arise.
