Engine crash on start; Windows XP

Post by Nickmaster24 »

I, today, have download the Windows installer for LOVE. Everytime I go to run it, and application box thing pops up that is empty and has no title. Imeditantally following that, I get a message from Windows asking if I want to send an error report because the program has encountered a problem and needs to close. Any help? :death: :(

Sounds kinda like issue #216, or maybe issue #185. Can you provide any additional data on your machine?

Heh, the Windows errors look all the same. ;)
The SSE2 requirement was resolved with 0.7.2 and should not be a problem for that processor (I think).

Can you look in the event viewer if there are any error messages regarding LÖVE and post them here?
You can open it by clicking on "Start" and then "Run...". Type in "eventvwr.msc" and hit enter.

I know of the following things that could cause an error:
- The LÖVE 0.7.2 Windows build on the front page runs only on Windows XP with service pack 2 and up.
- It's possible that an installed VC++ 2008 runtime may help Windows not being stupid.
- Graphics drivers with bad OpenGL support. This would suck because older cards don't get any driver updates.

There are tons of other possibilities and further (and deeper) analysis on your system is needed to figure out what goes wrong.

Just wondering, does the LÖVE runtime (the "zipped" version) work?

@T-Bone

I am downloading a free "un-zipping" program; I will try with the zipped version.

I thought Windows could handle zip files itself, even in XP if I remember correctly... But then again, I haven't used Windows a lot since I learnt about Linux a couple of years ago, so I could be wrong :P
