Hold the left mouse button to warp the grid where the cursor is.
Known bugs:
-Moving the cursor near the bottom-right corner of the screen causes all of the lines to light up Fixed!
-Colors don't fade unless you have the mouse button held down Also fixed!
Feel free to edit the code and make it cooler.

I wasn't keeping track of how long I spent on it, but I don't think it took more than a couple of hours.

Gorgeous! And it doesn't even need 0.8, nice! Can it handle more than one warp at the same time?
Earliest Love2D supporter who can't Love anymore. Let me disable pixel shaders if I don't use them, dammit!

Very nice. I wanted to implement something similar for Space, never got around to that.

I haven't tried it yet, but it should be able to with a little reorganization.

Very nice!
When I suck stuff in at the bottom right, all the grid colors change to the bright blue-ish hue.

Holy awesomeness, Batman. Now make it so right-clicking pulses the grid out in a wave like an explosion like in the real game.
