Spyke: Speak Type.

Spyke. Which is a fusion of Speak Type.

It's an experimental instant messenger that is build to mimic real life one to one conversations.
There is no send button. The text updates live, and the past characters fade away like the sound waves of a conversation do.
With Spyke you gain the immediacy and intimacy usually lost in traditional instant messengers.

When you load up the program you will automatically be added to my master list.
You can either wait until someone joins you from the master list or join someone else instead.
There are commands to use and these will be in the readme.txt

There's also playback mode where you can use left and right to go back in time reading the chat history. :ultrahappy:

Thanks to LUBE and LOVEly eyes.

Too bad the connection messages stay, and that when I press ' it stops scrolling, but certainly a good concept.

Back in the heady days of my early high school years, when 2400 baud modems were the top speed, there was a DOS-based chat program that worked exactly like this. You had to dial directly into your mate's computer and then you could see everything, every spelling error, every typo. It was odd, but that was the early days of IM-ing.

And if that doesn't date me, nothing will.

Update

Done some rehaul on the code.
Now supports multiple users to connect, each with their own line.
It will also detect web urls which when clicked will open it in firefox
(assuming it's installed in the default directory, so this feature won't work on mac or linux, any idea on how to run a command on mac?)

I would like to be able to use copy and paste too, i've searched the forums and found something about sdl scrap but I havent the foggiest idea on how to compile it and get it working with love.

pretty much the same way you would do it on linux, OSX's backbone is BSD, with a healthy(?) amount of apple built on top of it

also when i enter that address i get this screen
