It seems to be easy to run homebrew on the PSP, but not on the Vita. There are ways, but nothing really reliable yet, as you can read up on Wololo and Yifan Lu. You can either stick with an old firmware (are there disadvantages to that? I don't know) or rely on exploits for specific games that Sony can fix (not sure if that works on already downloaded games, or what). The point is, it's not as straightforward as with the PSP.

The DS family, on the other hand, is still pretty homebrewable all the way up to the 3DS (even though it may require people to spend some extra cash). And theres µLua DS, which looks pretty good. Hmmmm...

What's the status? Is this available in github?

Well the PSP had a sales volume of 48290000 Units in 2008-2014, which is not that much compared to other consoles (Even less when compared to the DS, which sold more than that alone in 2008-2009). (according to statista)
Even further than that Sony decided to cut of the sales all togehter in mid 2014.

My point is, I don't really think we need this.

Hell, I have an original day-two PSP which I never use but if I could get a working version of Löve 0.10.0 with all the features running on it, I'd probably be super happy.

But then again, if it didn't happen, oh well.

I can't even get emulators working on it anymore. I'd be happy with working NES, SNES and GBA emulators.
