Project Disconnected - A work in progress

Hi everyone,

I started working on my first love2d game almost a month ago. I'm about to release my first alpha in two days if everything goes according to plan. The alpha and subsequent versions, up until release, will be free of charge. The code itself will be licensed under the MIT license at some point after the full game's release (A few months later probably).

You can check out my game on my website below, and I would really appreciate it if you take a look at my latest video in the youtube link I provided below as well. I worked my butt off on it. Fair warning, it's a little slow for the first minute or two.

So after almost a week of development since my last post, I have a little alpha teaser for anyone who is interested.

I would best describe this as a mini open world game, with a focus on story building. I'm being inspired by a lot of things. Pokemon, The Endless, Hereditary and a few stories I grew up reading as a kid.

I spent the better part of last week finishing up all the libraries I need to produce content, so now I get to push this story ahead and hopefully release something playable for everyone in the next few days. It won't be the full game, but hopefully it'll be enough to spark some interest in the project going forward.

Well, I've developed little games on and off when I was little. They were just ascii based games similar to nethack. Nothing as annoying as disconnected though!

That being said, I've been developing for almost 10 years now. So, since I was 14 I've had the opportunity to write both hobbyist and professional grade software. My little crowning achievement was a physics simulation framework that I wrote from scratch to probe a dark matter theory called the dark sector.

Hi everyone,

So I have some pretty good news. First off, I released a new video which you can view here -> https://youtu.be/CJc61g_tPDQ

Second, I've decided to release alpha 2 ahead of time. You can download a zip of the file here -> https://drive.google.com/open?id=1OQJnJ ... soEkeOZAI1

I have built it on version 11.1

I was meaning to release alpha 1 earlier in the week, but during internal testing between myself and friends, it seemed appropriate to let it bake a little more.

Controls currently -> wasd for movement, esc to open up menu.

Known issues with Alpha 2
  • Options menu does not work
  • Loading crashes the client
  • Collisions and tile layering is inconsistent
  • Default sound volume may be considered loud
  • Characters will occasionally jitter back and forth while walking
Planned changes for Beta 1
  • Fix all currently known issues
  • Text will write out, instead of just printing all of it instantly
  • Finish writing the story and placing the bones in the game
  • Obtain more subscribers on youtube :awesome:

I encountered a bug trying to get this game to load.
Any ideas?

There may not be a consistent workaround at the moment. I'll fix and test a bit more for the next build. Sorry!

Note, this build is relatively old now. I've fixed just about everything I wanted to for Alpha 3/Beta 1 including some minor things like adding a flicker bar when you're typing as a visual indication.
