I vote:
- official documentation should say to always use PO2 images (even if it'll work otherwise sometimes)
- modify packaged demos to use PO2 images

It's quite unfortunate how many of the demos that come at least with the Windows version of LÖVE use npot2 images. That kind of thing could give someone a bad first impression, you know... YES THIS EXACTLY, HAPPENED TO ME I have a new PC now so it's moot but it was very mysterious and confusing at ...

Addt'l progress: I have figured out particle systems! http://i49.tinypic.com/jfg3l4.jpg http://i48.tinypic.com/e0l95j.jpg I am using a lot of transparent pngs to get everything anti-aliased rather than futzing around with render masks and such. I hope this won't result in poor render speed on slower...

Yeah, but your post looked like a bunch of boxes since for some reason japanese doesn't render right in my firefox
