Re: In the Heavens - Demo 0.1.11

The new lighting looks spectacular, and the music is fantastic :ultraglee: (thanks for the link...now I'll probably have a few hundred/thousand more songs to select from for my own project :? ). I really like the sort of "retro pixel art+modern effects" thing you have going on, and flying ...

Re: Working on a new mystery game WitchDoctor

Intriguing concept, and enshrouding everything in darkness really enhances the atmosphere. It could even have a sort of "Lovecraftian/Shadow over Innsmouth" vibe (albiet, that would be a little less "casual" for a horror theme.) I also really like the investigative, mystery solvi...

Re: Untitled RPG Project

Well...with any luck you won't have anymore serious "medically-induced breaks". Even a "small" RPG is a beast to tackle, because there are so many seperate parts that need to ultimately mesh together into a cohesive final product...and that's just the game mechanics, so I greatly...

Re: 2D lighting engines

I really wish I could help...but this sort of stuff is pretty far out of my league :? . For my own project, I may just use "stencils" for some basic blended lighting/shadows, and probably not mess about with normals (as that would require a whole seperate set of sprites for everything that...

Re: 2D lighting engines

I think there's already some mileage to take by adjusting the graphics offline, without shaders. Opps, too late, already made a lighting system bRb7-3jjp90 I probably will use photoshop to mess with it though, hopefully it could add some appeal to it. That's a neat effect...almost looks like some k...

Re: Untitled RPG Project

It's fantastic that you are still working on this, in spite of setbacks. Real life and general lack of motivation have been getting in the way of my own project (which I'm still not fully decided on.) I started making a "map editor" at one point in hopes of streamlining/automating the proc...

Re: In the Heavens - Demo 0.1.9

If you haven't played/seen it, check out Super Metroid (awesome SNES game). You don't begin with the power of flight, but it's unlocked late in the story. Also, it mostly takes place underground where free flight isn't as overpowered as you might expect. It also doesn't let you open doors, find (so...

Re: In the Heavens - Demo 0.1.9

Neat. Dragons instantly add more awesome  I was recently kind of mulling over including full flight in a platformer of my own someday, but worried that flight, if not handled properly, could leave the player simply "skipping" most of the game. However, if someone else has already mad...

Re: Untitled RPG Project

The art style is interesting...kind of a vibrant, digital oil painting vibe. I like it. There are so many options and methods for turn-based combat that it may be difficult to settle on just one. The main issue is that you can never really predict the behavior or temperament of the player...so, if p...

Re: Simplifying loves learning curve

I personally found "sheepolution" to be a wonderful starting point, as well as rvagamejams "learn to love". It begins with introductory ideas, expands on those, then puts everything together into small examples of specific types of games. Most concepts covered will be used over a...
