Slowly fade to the end of dialogue

Hi, simple question, how can i fade to black after a number of dialogue line?

More details here:
1. I have a table containing 40 lines of string
2. In my update, each line takes 3 seconds.
4. I want my variable "a" to be 255 at the 40th line.
