Linux is a very different creature than Windows or OSX (actually, a little similar to OSX but that's not relevant here). People can have any number of software and hardware configurations and creating a one size fits all binary is not really possible. Chances are most gamers will use a Debain based distro, like Ubuntu, and can use .deb packages but the ones who don't are accustomed to jumping through hoops to play games.

In short, it's not really as big a deal as you might believe. Providing a love and pointing them to http://www.love2d.org/wiki/Building_L%C3%96VE should be sufficient.

Provide a .deb & .rpm for Debian and Red Hat distros. As a fallback provide a source tar.gz for other distributions. Users on any other distribution will build it themselves.

The best thing you can do (unless you're willing to put some serious effort into it) is release the .love for them.

All your other questions would have be answered if you bothered to read these pages;

Kind of. Most still applies for the current development version of LÖVE, except that you now need SDL2. Oh, and the executable and library are somewhere else. In build/.libs perhaps? I would have to look it up myself.
