Retro pixel font (with Hangul/CJK support?)

Post by ivan »

I've been looking for a nice retro font that supports at least Hangul, but couldn't find anything suitable.
PressStartP2 is great and supports Cyrillic, Greek and most Latin scripts.
So I went ahead and drew the few hundred Hangul syllables that were needed (although this is a tiny fraction of the entire Hangul set)
The modified TTF is available below and of course, any feedback is much appreciated.
Note: Latin characters are 8x8px while Hangul in this case requires at least 12x12 px so it's not quite monospace

Fixedsys Excelsion is a pretty neat font imo, but sadly it lacks cjk.

Fixedsys is great, looks like a lot of work went into it.
Could be very useful for RPGs or DOS-like games.
The reason why I wouldn't use it - is because it looks too much like a "terminal" font for my purposes.
Thanks for taking a look!

Yeah, it is monospaced and was used even in the DOS era, to my knowledge; the author of that version expanded upon the original since they wanted an IRC client to utilize this specific font, but with more glyphs that were missing from the original.

In any case, i'm liking PressStartP2 as well :3

Cool, will keep an eye on Fixedsys too.

Shakesoda, Hangul was procedurally generated by the Unifont devs by combining glyphs which results in extra whitespace and slightly misaligned strokes. This is not a big deal but using it as a display font would be frowned upon by the typography gods.

Huh, I didn't know that. I use unifont as my debug terminal font, so many typography sins can be forgiven.
