Hi, I saw one thread over there with the Game of life as topic, I'd like you to bring your version here and discuss a little more about it.
Here's my very simple version in pure Lua (it uses canvas):

You can change the scale factor with ctrl + (1 to 7) and change the color mode with 'C'.
I haven't added an option to "draw" an initial state, it starts always in random and I'm not controling the FPS, they'll depend on your processor, size of the matrix, the color mode used, etc. Hope you like it
The code is for LÖVE 0.9.0
Game of life, bring your version.

Re: Game of life, bring your version.
I made one of those a while back. It's pretty basic, Doesn't have any fancy features and it's written for 0.8.0 but seems to work in 0.9.0 except it runs at 800x600 instead of 720p. Which isn't really a problem as it was written to work on any resolution.

I did a sound experiment a while back. Takes some time to load, but you will hear why.

You see? that's what I mean, some original creations with a personal touch
Let's do some more crazy stuff with this
I was thinking of cells which can stay not only dead or alive but with a level of "HP".

That was pretty creepy when I finally figured out what was going on.
Well, sort of figured it out. I'm still not clear on what it means.
*chills go down spine*

Thanks for the info about the continuous automaton. Looks like my idea it's not so original (not was hoping like I was the first one on thinking that though).
And about the nightmares... hopefully not so.
