xxhash

Post by szensk »

Some people have been using hashes for a number of purposes.

I saw Lua Power's murmurhash3 and was inspired to write an implementation of xxhash. On my machines it is anywhere between 900MB/s (T6400) to 1.9GB/s (i5-4670K). Anyway, the library is available here. I haven't tested it on other machines, but it seems to work on Ubuntu 14.04 x86 and Windows x64.

It isn't cryptographically secure so do not use it as such. It does, however, produce higher hash quality than CRC32 and should be faster.
