Re: Cave Bird!
Congrats on finishing it! And thanks for the mention ;) I've been playing with it for a while. It's fun, it reminds me of the Metro Siberia flash game which is a favourite of mine. But after quite some levels, it seemed to be always the same cave over and over with no change in gameplay or difficul...

Cave Bird!
Hey there, fellow Lövers :) I've made a game. It's not perfect and it took me way too long to make, but now it exists. That's a good feeling :) I'll tell you that this took me around two years, which is an absurd amount of time for something that simple. I'll be making more levels in the future, but...

Re: Survive... ball?
Now I'm curious, what kind of nostalgia did it give you? What game were you reminded of? :) The overall look and feel (artsyle and controls) reminded me of this game ... not to mention the frantic nature that's absent in most games today. I consider that quite a compliment, thanks! :) I loved that ...

Re: Performance - what are your standards?
I'll elaborate on what ivan said a little bit. You shouldn't care so much about your framerate, the more important metric is frame time. Consider a scenario where you're running your game without vertical sync on a 60Hz monitor and your FPS is 300. That's 240 frames of headroom, right? Not exactly,...

Re: Survive... ball?
Cool idea! I'm not a great player it seems, I just got 24 points. I think the ball needs a bit more thickness to not pass trough walls when going around corners. I had quite some trouble with the Linux packaging. It's gzipped twice, so the proper extension would be .tar.gz.gz, and the .tar contains...

Survive... ball?
So I made this for trying my hand at an isometric game - it *looks* as basic as it gets, but I've learned a lot from it. I'm not a fan of traditional menus and I wish I could make them this way every time I made a game, but it's probably not applicable everywhere. Also, I'm aware that there's, like ...

Re: Performance - what are your standards?
In terms of the actual benchmarks: for most of my games I shoot for 60fps on a 1080 resolution during gameplay, on whatever medium-tier-ish laptop I can get my hands on. What do you consider a medium-tier laptop nowadays? Would mine be considered medium-tier? It can run stuff quite smoothly, I gues...

Re: Performance - what are your standards?
It's not really about running at high FPS, it's more about making sure the FPS is consistent. So it's often about dealing with occasional drops in the frame rate. I also do profiling which help pinpoint overall bottlenecks https://bitbucket.org/itraykov/profile.lua/src/master/ If my games can run s...
